Dr. Rodriguez would like to remind their diabetic patients that they qualify for 1 pair of diabetic shoes and 3 pairs of diabetic inserts each year!
What is the Medicare Therapeutic Shoe Bill?
Enacted in May 1993, this program was designed to provide reimbursement to Medicare Part B patients with diabetes, for custom molded shoes or extra depth shoes and accommodative inserts.
Of the 16 million Americans with diabetes, 25 percent develop foot problems related to the disease, and patients fitted with the correct type of footwear have much less chance of developing lower limb complications.
The program allows one pair of specialized shoes and three pairs of inserts per calendar year.
